Balkan cycling

Join us on this exciting cycling trip in the heart of the Balkan Mountains! We will bike in the north and central parts of the Balkan Mountains, famous for their unspoiled nature, green valleys, precipitous cliffs and gentle, rolling hills offering plenty of unique biking opportunities. We will start the trip in the tiny Goliam Izvor village. We will pass through the Central Balkan National Park and end up in Veliko Tarnovo – the Old Bulgarian capital and one of the most charming Bulgarian towns. The narrow roads meander through picturesque villages, where traditional lifestyle has been preserved and it is not uncommon to wooden carts pulled by a horse or donkey and villagers making hay the old-fashioned way.

The Legend of Orpheus

A memorable transit through some of the least-known and most authentic parts of the Rhodopes: Bulgaria’s most lyrical mountain famed as birthplace of the legendary musician Orpheus. Along with its wonderful climate, the mountain offers the perfect setting for gentle hiking amid pastoral landscapes, valleys dotted with picturesque villages, verdant meadows with grazing flocks of goats and sheep, ancient deciduous forests, Roman roads and bridges, and an enormous diversity of natural phenomena like the Trigradsko Zhdrelo Gorge, the Yagodinska Peshtera and Dyavolsko Garlo (The Devil’s Throat) caves, the Eagle’s Eye observation platform, and the Chudni Mostove (Wonderful Bridges) rock bridges. A visit to Bachkovo Monastery (the second largest in Bulgaria) and options to join free walking tours of Sofia and Plovdiv cities are also included in the program.

Plovdiv and Koprivshtitsa

Plovdiv is many things – the cultural capital of Europe for 2019, one of the few cities build over seven hills (now six), the oldest city in Europe, but most of all it is charming and full of history.
Our trip will take us to the old city where you can see well preserved buildings that are still used. Our day will be packed with interesting historical sites as well as the charm of the city.
Our second stop is in Koprivshtitsa. There we will see Bulgarian revival period in person.
